The Health Occupations Aptitude Examination (PSB) is a tool that is used to assess a student’s capability to successfully complete the educational requirements for a health care occupation. The five categories include: Academic Aptitude, Spelling, Reading Comprehension, Information in The Natural Sciences and Vocational Adjustment Index.
- Academic Aptitude – This test has three sections with each section having thirty questions. - Spelling – This category has sixty questions and will reflect a student’s learning ability and their educational achievement related to basic learning.
- Reading Comprehension – This test has fifty questions and will test the student’s ability in several areas: observation of how ideas are organized, understanding of statements, what the author’s intent was, interpretation of written content, and ability to understand the ideas and purposes of written material by extracting pertinent information.

It is recommended that those who are taking this examination get a study guide to adequately prepare them for this important test. The guides are comprehensive sources for the types of questions to be expected on this examination. They include self assessments that can assist the student and will help them immensely. Practice Tests are also highly suggested to determine areas of potential weakness so that you can focus on those problem areas and continue to take periodic Practice Tests right up until your examination. Waiting until the last day to cram for this test is not suggested as you need time to properly prepare yourself and ensure that you have a successful PSB test.
