Taking the Pain Management Certification Exam?


Pain Management is a nurse specialty certification program organized and conducted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). ANCC is the largest nursing certification body in the world. Founded in 1990 it has certified over 75,000 advance practice nurses to date.

Registration


To apply, candidates should download registration application forms from the ANCC website
Completed application forms along with relevant documents and payment should be mailed to American Nurses Credentialing Center, P.O. Box 791333 . Baltimore, MD 21279-1333
Successful applicants will be mailed a confirmation and information on how to schedule exams



Eligibility


Candidates must posses an active United States registered nursing license or a recognized equivalent of another country
Candidates must have practiced for two years as a full time registered nurse
Have a minimum of 2,000 experience in a nursing home in areas related to various aspects of pain management
Candidates must have acquired at least 30 hours of continuous education within the last three years prior to applying for the exam. 15 hours from the 30 must have been spent in areas related to pain management



Fees


To take the ANCC examination, member of the American Nurses Association are required to pay $270, while members of the American Society for Pain Management Nursing will pay $340. Candidates who do not belong to these two organizations will have to pay $390. All candidates will also have to pay a non-refundable $140 as administrative fee



Format


The pain management certification exam is made up of 175 multiple choice questions
150 of these questions will be scored while 25 are non-scored pre-test questions
The exam is computer based and is held at over 300 exam centers primarily located in the United States and Canada
This exam is a computer-based test
Applications can be sent in year round and exam scheduling should be done with 90 days of receiving a confirmation of your application
