Studying for the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Exam (ONC)?
The Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Exam (ONC) is organized and administered by the Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Board's (ONCB). The exam is conducted for ONCB by AMP testing corporation.
Eligibility
• Candidates must posses an unrestricted valid registered nurse (RN) license in the US
• Or, candidates must posses an unrestricted valid first level nurse license in another country where the nursing education was completed and meet the US requirements for licensure as an RN as set by CGFNS, International
• Candidates must acquired 2 years practice experience as an RN
• Candidates must have acquired at least 1,000 hours RN work experience in orthopeadic nurse practice in the last 3 years
• Candidates are not mandated to posses a BSN degree to be eligible

• Orthopaedic trauma 21%
• Degenerative disease 30%
• Sports injuries 15%
• Orthopaedic oncology 3%
• Neuromuscular/pediatrics/congenital 8%
• Operative orthopaedics 8%
• Inflammatory disorders 8%
• Metabolic bone disease 7%
Exam Structure
• The exam is computer based with 150 multiple choice questions
• Only 135 questions are scored as there are 15 non identified pre-test questions
• The exam is timed for 3 hours

A paper/pencil format of the exam will be offered in March and May 2010 during the AAOS and NAON annual meetings
