Need help Studying for the Cardiac Medicine Subspecialty Certification (CMC) ?

The Cardiac Medicine Subspecialty Certification (CMC) Exam is organized and handled by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The CMC exams are held at over 170 Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) computer based test sites



Eligibility


   •  Candidates can only register online for the computer based version of the CMC exam
   •  Candidates can register for both the paper/pencil and computer based exam formats by downloading registration forms and mailing them along with necessary forms and payment to:

     AACN Certification Corporation,
    101 Columbia, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656

     Or, fax to (949) 362-2020

     Eligible candidates will receive an eligibility notification after which they have to schedule an AMP test sites and location



Registration


   •  Candidates must posses an unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN) or APRN in the US
   •  Candidates must have practiced as an APRN or RN with 1,750 hours acquired in direct bedside care and/or critically ill patients within the past 2 years, with 875 of these hours acquired within the last year
   •  The practice hours must have been acquired in a Canadian or US-based facility or one deemed to be off similar standards by the ANCC Magnet Status or Joint Commission International accreditation
   •  Candidates must posses a recent national certification from any American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) or National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Approved certification examples include CCNS, PCCN, CCRN, ACNPC, CEN, FNP, CRNFA, BC or APRN.
   •  Nurses serving as manager, educator (in-service or academic), APRN or preceptor may apply their hours spent supervising nursing students or nurses at the bedside

   •  Cardiology Monitoring (15%)
   •  Nursing Interventions
   •  Pulmonary Interventions (5%)
   •  Cardiology Interventions (16%)
   •  Other Patient Problems
   •  Pulmonary (7%)
   •  Endocrine (3%)
   •  Hematology (1%)
   •  Neurology (1%)
   •  Renal (4%)
   •  Cardiology Patient Problems
   •  Acute Coronary Syndrome (8%)
   •  Dysrhythmias (11%)
   •  Other Cardiology Issues (24%)
   •  Other Cardiology Issues (24%)



Exam Structure


   •  The exam is computer based with 90 multiple choice questions
   •  Only 75 questions are scored and 15 are pre-test questions
   •  The exam is timed for 2 hours



Other Information


   •  The computer based exam version are held 6 days a week, throughout the year at over 170 AMP computer based test centers
   •  Exam application fees are $140 for AACN Members $140 and $185 for non-members
