Need help Studying for the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam (ACNPC)?

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam (ACNPC) is administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center , a subsidiary of the American Nursing Association. The ACNPC is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification. The ACNPC certification is good for five years. Renewal applications must be received at least 3 months prior to current expiration.

Registration



Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold an active RN license is a US state or territory or a foreign equivelant
•Hold a Master's, Post-Master's, or Doctorate from an ACNP program accredited by the CCNE or the NLNAC
•Minimum of 500 supervised clinical hours completed during ACNP program
•Graduate program must have included coursework in advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, advanced pathophysiology, health promotion and disease prevention, and differential diagnosis and disease management.
•Complete application and submit with appropriate fees.
•Complete online exam within 90 day window provided at location of choice.


Exam Fees


The exam fee varies based on whether or not the applicant is a member in good standing of the American Nursing Association or the American College of Nurse Practitioners. Fees are as follows:

• Non-members: $390 initial certification, $350 renewal
• American Nurses Association members: $270 initial certification, $200 renewal
• American College of Nurse Practitioners member: $340 initial certification, $280 renewal

• Multiple Choice Format
• 3 ½ Hours to Complete



Exam Contents


Exam consists of 150 questions from the following categories:

• Assessment of Acute and Chronic Illness
• Clinical Management
• Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
• Nurse Practitioner and Patient Relationship
• Professional Role and Policy
• Research Utilization



Renewal Requirements


• 2,000 hours worked in specialty during previous 5 years.
• 400 of these hours must have been in the past year.
• Optional 150 hours of continuing education in lieu of retesting.
