Taking the Gerontological (GNP) Exam?
The Gerontological Nurse Practitioner exam is handled and organized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The exams are conducted at various computer based Prometric test centers.
Eligibility
• Candidates must posses a valid RN license in the United States or an equivalent from another country
• Candidates must posses a degree in master, post-master or doctorate level from any gerontological nurse practitioner program approved by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE)
• Candidates must posses at least 500 clinical hours supervised by a faculty in their Gerontological nurse practitioner program. The program must include courses in advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology and advanced health assessment
• Practitioners in Acute Nurse Care, Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner can qualify for the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Alternate Eligibility Recognition Examination

• Clinical Assessment 30.67%
• Foundations of Advanced Nursing Practice 33.33%
• Clinical Management 36%
Exam Structure
• The exam is computer based with 175 questions multiple choice questions
• Only 150 questions are scored and 25 questions are used as pre-test
Other Information
• Application fee for the exam is $390. Members of the American Nurse Association will have to pay only $270
• There is also a non-refundable administrative $140 fee
