Nursing Requires Care and Responsibility

October 10th, 2009

pic7Being a nurse requires the responsibility and care of the patient and involves five steps no matter what type of nurse you are. These steps include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient because nurses are involved with just about all of a patient’s care.

A nurse provides comfort while at the same time administering medication or giving injections or setting up IV’s. Nurses are responsible for updating medical records for those in their care. A nurse often applies minor therapeutic procedures and/or diagnostic procedures as well. There are many types of nurses – from generalists to surgical to anesthesia, also pre and post surgical care nurses.

A stay in a hospital for a surgical procedure will bring you in contact with a multitude of different nurses all with a different type of care but all responsible for ensuring that the patient is well taken care of and that appropriate medications, procedures and methods are followed for the type of illness the patient is admitted for. Nurses specialize in pediatrics, cardiology, oncology and many other medical specialties so that whatever type of care is required the patient is receiving it from someone who is knowledgeable about the condition of the patient under their care.

A nursing career offers stability and many options from which to choose in terms of types of nursing and schedules along with the amount of responsibility. You can choose just about what and where you want to work. Nurses find their jobs rewarding in many ways but also challenging and satisfying because they are helping people to get better or to be comforted while they are suffering at some of the worst moments of their lives. If you like helping people nursing is a career that offers the chance to do that and also make a huge difference in someone’s life at a time when they need you most.
